FoRP Projects

We are exploring projects with the aim of improving our well-loved park such as tree planting, creating a herb garden, improving facilities, organising events, etc. If you have another project idea or identify a need for our park, get in touch!

Playground Area

Playgrounds help children build memories, encourage physical activity/socialisation, and ultimately make people happy. However, the fenced playground currently installed in Redhall Park has been recognised by the local community as a priority for improvement.

We want to explore what steps we can take to raise funds for creating a modern, safe, wonderful playground space for children in our community. This would work well in tandem with the football pitches used by community teams, giving children in the area more ways to use the park and engage with this green space.

Tree Planting

Trees bring so many potent and lasting benefits to where we live, our health and our wellbeing. Scotland is already feeling the effects of climate change, which brings more pests and diseases which affect trees. Redhall Park already has a range of trees, but we could do more to plant a range of tree species

A wider range of tree species will create more healthy woodland habitat for urban wildlife, build resistance to pests/disease, and make the park a more interesting place to be! In addition to the existing range of trees, Redhall Park could host new trees native to Scotland. This could include walnut, ash, birch, oak, and even a community orchard such as the one currently being nurtured at Saughton Park. A corner of the park could grow apples, plums, pears... but it all matters what you want to see as a local resident and user of the park.

Herb Garden

A herb garden contains plants used for flavouring food, for medicinal use, or (quite often) both. Herb gardens are useful, ornamental, and instructive, promoting good health and better cooking. Taking a little inspiration from the Physic Garden in Saughton Park, here are some herbs which could be grown and maintained by volunteers in a dedicated section of Redhall Park:

  • Fennel

  • Coriander

  • Rosemary

  • Thyme

  • Mint

  • Sage

Community Clean Up

We organise litter pick events with the aim to tackle litter and waste to protect, enhance Redhall park and spaces as well as combating climate change. The City of Edinburgh Council provides us with clean up kits, including litter pickers for adults and children, and they will also remove any litter that has been collected. We adhere to all Scottish Government's guidelines for socially distancing.

We meet at Redhall Park on Sundays at 1pm - all is welcome!
